Quick Baskets
1. Desk Basket.
Two hours. This little desk basket can be used for
whatever you wish--pencils, business cards, dry arrangements,
rulers, etc. It can help the creative part of you
work with the organized part to make something that
is distinctly yours. Make this basket truly yours
through choice of color and style.
Remember, there is no such thing as a bad basket.
They are all beautiful, just like the person who made
it (you)!
2. Make a Heart Basket
to cheer up a room, give to a friend, and spread a
little more love around the world. This nine-inch
basket, made with either paper splint or flat reed,
can be painted, decorated, and/or filled with something
loving. It won’t take any longer than three or four
hours to make.
3. The Handled Serving Basket,
Graceful symbol of gifts given and gifts received.
This basket is similar to the Boat Basket but wider
and can hold anything from soaps to guest towels to
cookies to you name it! Made with flat reed, variation
is possible in size as well as materials Try creating
miniatures, or weave with different materials. Paint
designs or dye the materials. Embellish with pods,
etc. Wrap with raffia. etc., etc., etc 2-3 hours.
4. The small Offering Basket
is almost an extension of one’s giving hands. This
basket is fairly simple to put together. I have used
these as table favors and to give just a few cookies
to a friend. The Japanese people consider the container
to be a sort of frame for that which is contained.
2-4 hours.
5. Garlic Basket. This
little basket can be made quickly once you learn the
simple twining technique. After you learn to make
this one little basket, you can explore all the possibilities,
for learning this one technique opens up many vistas!
1-2 hours.
6. Make a rustic Weed Basket,
using both flat and round reed, and hang it on the
wall to hold treasures from walks in the woods. 3
hours.
